# JSON-RPC

> BOT Chain's Geth-compatible JSON-RPC API and where to find method details.

BOT Chain's nodes speak the standard Ethereum JSON-RPC API, so any library that works with Ethereum (viem, ethers, web3.py, Foundry) works here. BOT Chain [describes its API](https://dev-docs.botchain.ai/docs/Developers/json-rpc-endpoint/) as nearly fully compatible with Geth. For the details of any standard method, use the [Geth JSON-RPC documentation](https://geth.ethereum.org/docs/interacting-with-geth/rpc).

## Endpoints

| Network | URL | Transport |
| - | - | - |
| Mainnet | `https://rpc.botchain.ai` | HTTPS only |
| Testnet | `https://rpc.bohr.life` | HTTPS only |

Neither endpoint publishes a WebSocket URL. On 2026-10-01 both nodes reported the client version `Geth/v1.5.13`.

## Make a request

<CodeGroup>
  ```bash curl theme={"dark"}
  curl -s https://rpc.bohr.life \
    -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
    -d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":1,"method":"eth_blockNumber","params":[]}'
  ```

  ```bash cast theme={"dark"}
  cast rpc eth_blockNumber --rpc-url https://rpc.bohr.life
  ```

  ```js viem theme={"dark"}
  import { createPublicClient, http } from "viem";
  const client = createPublicClient({
    transport: http("https://rpc.bohr.life"),
  });
  console.log(await client.getBlockNumber());
  ```
</CodeGroup>

## Available namespaces

`rpc_modules` returned these namespaces on both networks on 2026-10-01:

| Namespace | Available | Notes |
| - | - | - |
| `eth` | Yes | Standard methods, plus BOT Chain's finality and blob methods |
| `net` | Yes | |
| `web3` | Yes | |
| `txpool` | Yes | `txpool_status` and related methods |
| `rpc` | Yes | |
| `debug` | No | Returns error `-32601`. No transaction tracing on public RPCs. |
| `trace` | No | Returns error `-32601` |
| `admin`, `personal`, `miner` | No | |

## Method support

Tested on both networks on 2026-10-01.

| Method | Works | Notes |
| - | - | - |
| `eth_blockNumber`, `eth_getBlockByNumber`, `eth_getBlockByHash` | Yes | Accept the `safe` and `finalized` tags |
| `eth_getBalance`, `eth_getCode`, `eth_getStorageAt`, `eth_getTransactionCount` | Yes | |
| `eth_call`, `eth_estimateGas` | Yes | |
| `eth_simulateV1` | Yes | |
| `eth_createAccessList` | Yes | Checks that the sender can pay for gas. See [Differences from Geth](/reference/json-rpc/differences-from-geth). |
| `eth_sendRawTransaction` | Yes | `eth_sendTransaction` needs an unlocked account, which public nodes don't have |
| `eth_getTransactionByHash`, `eth_getTransactionReceipt`, `eth_getBlockReceipts` | Yes | |
| `eth_gasPrice`, `eth_maxPriorityFeePerGas`, `eth_feeHistory`, `eth_blobBaseFee` | Yes | See [Gas and fees](/get-started/bot-chain/gas-and-fees) |
| `eth_getProof` | Yes | |
| `eth_getLogs` | Partly | Documented as disabled. See [Differences from Geth](/reference/json-rpc/differences-from-geth). |
| `eth_newFilter`, `eth_getFilterChanges` | Unreliable | Filters are often "not found" on the next call |
| `eth_subscribe` | No | "notifications not supported" over HTTP |
| `eth_getFinalizedHeader`, `eth_getFinalizedBlock`, `eth_getHeaderByNumber` | Yes | BOT Chain additions. See [Differences from Geth](/reference/json-rpc/differences-from-geth). |
| `eth_getBlobSidecars`, `eth_getBlobSidecarByTxHash` | Yes | See [Blob API](/reference/json-rpc/blob-api) |
