This page helps you pick a tool for writing, testing and deploying contracts on BOT Chain. All three tools below work with BOT Chain, because it is an EVM chain with a standard JSON-RPC.

The short answer

  • New to Solidity? Start with Remix. It runs in your browser and needs no install.
  • Building a web app in TypeScript? Use Hardhat. Your contracts, tests and frontend share one language and one package.json.
  • Want fast tests written in Solidity? Use Foundry. It is the quickest to install and run, and the quickstart uses it.
You can switch later. A contract written in one tool compiles in the others.

Things that apply to every tool

BOT Chain has two quirks that every toolchain has to handle. The setup pages show the fix for each tool.
Recent Solidity compilers default to newer EVM versions than BOT Chain supports. Set the EVM version to cancun in your compiler settings. See Supported EIPs for the details.
BOT Chain blocks report a base fee of 0 and the node rejects any transaction that offers less than 20 gwei. Foundry, viem and wallets handle this on their own. Hardhat Ignition needs a small hook, shown on the Hardhat setup page. See Gas and fees.
